About the Event

Tour the Bauernshmidt Mansion, once the home of a local beer baron and now the offices of the National Great Blacks in Wax Museum, Inc.

About this event

The Bauernschmidt Mansion is the story of the Georges. It was built for George Bauernschmidt, a prosperous Baltimore beer baron, who commissioned George Frederick, the famed architect of Baltimore’s City Hall to design the house. In 1940, it was acquired by George Sander, becoming the Sander and Son Funeral Home. Along with being a story of the Georges, the Bauernschmidt building is also the story of the evolution of the African American community.

NOTE: This is a tour of the historic building that houses the offices of the National Great Blacks in Wax Museum, Inc. It is not a tour of the museum itself.

**Consider also booking the “Turner Station and Henrietta Lacks Village at Lyon Homes” tour on Saturday, October 1. This tour , sponsored by the Henrietta Lacks Legacy Group, begins with a lecture on Ms. Lacks’ life and her significance to modern medicine, and then heads out to explore the neighborhood where she lived. The Henrietta Lacks Legacy Group is actively raising funds to commission a wax sculpture of Ms. Lacks to be installed in the National Great Blacks in Wax Museum.**
