About the Event

See 100 years of movie history at the Parkway! The tour of the Parkway Theatre will give visitors a close look at the unique restoration process the building underwent called a “rescued ruin” where certain architectural and aesthetic elements were retained and embellished to celebrate the history of the theater.

About the SNF Parkway Theater
The Parkway Theatre was originally constructed as a movie theater in 1915 and operated under various ownerships until 1978. In 2011, Baltimore City sold the Parkway Theatre, along with three adjacent buildings, to the Maryland Film Festival for $1 to rescue the facility and revive it into a 3-screen movie theater as the Stavros Niarchos Foundation Parkway Theatre. Designed by Ziger/Snead Architects, SNF Parkway is the new year-round home of the Maryland Film Festival, and also provides space for Johns Hopkins University and MICA’s film programs. More info on the Parkway’s history.
