Baltimore Underground Science Space (BUGSS)
101 N Haven St #105, Baltimore, MD 21224
The building was constructed as the Haven Street Factory for the Steiner Mantel Company, which made mantels and other furnishings. The northern portion of the building was sold in 1910 to the King Cork & Seal Company, which manufactured gaskets and seals. The building changed hands several times: it served as a furniture maker, a paper box manufacturer, and finally, in 1952, a warehouse for Esskay. Its history encapsulates Baltimore’s industrial and manufacturing heritage.
The building has been restored to bring out the charm of its historic industrial architecture while providing upgraded technology and amenities. BUGSS is one of a number of tenants. BUGSS is a public lab offering classes and lab access so anyone can safely investigate the living world. Participate in hands on family activities and science stories.
