Visitor Experience

From 10 a.m. – 12 noon, check out the farmers’ market info booth and house, and meet some key players —a long-time market staff member, well-known and long-established neighborhood residents, a story-gatherer and -teller. They all will share their stories of the market, especially its origin as well its ongoing positive influence in the neighborhood and greater community, with each other and with visitors to the market.

There will also be photographs and enlargements of early newspaper articles on the market’s origin in 1980. Visitors can pick up literature on the market and talk with board members about its current work, from encouraging guest vendors, to offering grants to local nonprofits, to supporting veteran farmers and producers.

Limited Hours: 7AM-12PM

About

With more than four decades offering residents of Charles Village a rich variety of products, Baltimore’s 32nd Street Farmers Market is also a neighborhood’s favorite social event, even featuring local live musicians. Open every Sunday from 7 am to 12 pm throughout the year, the market occupies a city-owned parking lot located at the intersection of 32nd Street and Barclay Street. Previous structures on the site, from row houses to commercial sites, were demolished in the 1950s and a hotel development proposal was denied because surrounding business owners required more available parking. The market, managed by a ten-member Board of Directors (with representatives equally from vendors and the community) that are elected by the membership, serves as a hub for fostering community connections and bolstering local businesses.
