About

Abell Open Space, a quiet green space along 32nd street between Guilford and Abell, provides residents and families in Charles Village a perfect site to relax and build community. The 10,000 square feet city-owned and community managed pocket park features a swing set, picnic tables and a playhouse, as well as a small garden in its southwest corner. The Abell Improvement Association (AIA), the official neighborhood association incorporated in 1973, organizes movie screenings on Friday evenings during the summers, and the site is very active on Saturday mornings throughout the year, when its proximity to the Waverly Farmers’ Market attracts many users from all neighborhoods. The brick north-facing wall features a colorful mural by artist Hannah Attallah, commissioned in 2022 by AIA.
