Good Shepherd United Methodist Church

3800 Roland Ave. Baltimore, MD 21211

Information

On July 1, 1999, three United Methodist Churches, Woodberry, Otterbein
Memorial, and Roland Avenue-Evergreen, merged to become one new church
bearing a new name: Good Shepherd United Methodist Church. This new
name drew its inspiration from one of the church’s beautiful stained-glass
windows, which is prominently featured in the sanctuary.

From its humble beginnings in Hampden and surrounding neighborhoods as
numerous distinct churches that formed in the late nineteenth century, to its
current role as a beacon of inclusive love and hospitality in the community,
Good Shepherd United Methodist Church is a small congregation with a big
mission. As the church continues to change and adapt, it remains steadfast in
its mission to “care for the needs of God’s children within and beyond its walls” – to serve and uplift the community, reflecting God’s all-encompassing love for
all creation.

Explore this beautiful church, which dates to the late 1800s. Tours of the
sanctuary will include a brief history of the building, noting its heritage as
Otterbein Memorial Evangelical United Brethren Church, and drawing your
attention to the figures of that denomination’s founding figures, which adorn two stained glass windows: Philip Otterbein and Martin Boehm.
Throughout the duration of the event, light refreshments will be available in
the St. Johns Room, aptly named after two stained glass installations that
honor our partnership with Ancient Baltimore #234 AF & AM of Maryland –
one of our many community partners who meet in our building. A
representative of the masonic lodge will be on site to share more about free
masonry and its connection to St. John The Evangelist and St. John the
Baptist. We also host a year-round, affordable state licensed childcare
operated by Fitness Fun & Games in our basement. There will be kid-friendly
activities and crafts throughout the duration of the event, which will be run by staff from Fitness Fun & Games.

Whatever you believe or doubt, whatever you have done or failed to do,
whatever your story or experience of being human, and whomever you love,
you are welcome here!
