Information

In 2010, the City of Baltimore approached Parks & People about seizing an opportunity to restore a 9-acre, triangular shaped parcel of land to create a park asset and campus for environmental education. The proposed property was originally part of Druid Hill Park bordered by Auchentoroly Terrace, Liberty Heights Avenue and Reisterstown Road in the Mondawmin neighborhood. The parcel contained a historic Carriage House and Stone House built in 1872 that initially housed the superintendent of Druid Hill Park. The Superintendent’s family vacated the Stone House in the 80’s and it was subsequently vandalized and destroyed by two fires with only a shell remaining.

Park & People raised $13M and the campus is now the offices of several non-profits and the Stone House is often used for meetings, parties and events. Ziger/Snead Architects was hired to design the building. The new building is LEED Platinum Certified demonstrating the best practices in urban sustainability while filling a need for healthy, green vibrant space for the neighborhood and an educational hub for both children and adults in Baltimore and beyond.
